Frontend and backend

A CoachesCentral website is broken into two areas; the frontend and the backend.

The frontend is the public portion of the website; where you publish your content for anyone on the Internet to read.

The backend is a private area where you can edit the content that appears on the frontend.  To access the backend, you need to login using your username and password. Once you have successfully logged in you will be on the dashboard of the backend.

Appearance

You can change the appearance or “look and feel” of the frontend of your website from the Appearance menu.

You do this by selecting one of the available themes from the Themes page.

You can further customise the theme by uploading your own image to replace the themes default header image, you can also choose an alternative colour scheme from the Theme Options area.

For example, if we changed the colour scheme to “red” and click the save options button we can then go to the frontend of the site and see the change there.

Pages

The frontend of your site is made up of a selection of pages.  Each page appears here in the menu bar below the header image.

You can edit the content of a page in the backend under the “Pages” menu.  Here you can see a list of all the pages in your site; and choose one to edit. As an example we will make the first two words of the home page bold and red. Once we have have made the changes we click on the update button to save our changes. We can then click over to our frontend of the site and see the update on the home page.

Posts/Articles

Some pages on the frontend like the “blog” page, contain many articles or “posts” arranged in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent posts are at the top, and the oldest at the bottom. You can edit the content of the posts (or add new ones) from the “Posts” menu in the backend.

There are different categories of posts, which appear in different locations on different pages. For example, there are Blog Posts, which appear on the blog page, and Event Posts, which appear in the Event calendar on the Events page.

Where to get more help

There is quite a lot of other functionality – like adding images or video to your site; or publishing your blog content for RSS readers – that will be covered in more detail in other videos and tutorials.
